 "Sure to cure certain
maladies of the blood" ....an early medical book advocated
listening to the sounds produced on glasses. Throughout history the
sounds of crystals and glass chimes have been used in many cultures for
soothing and relaxing the nervous system.
Perhaps the best known practitioner who used the Glass
Armonica as a psychotherapeutic device was Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer, the
father of modern hypnosis, from whose name the word "mesmerize" was
derived. In the late 1700s Mesmer used the Armonica extensively to
